With the variety of beads on offer these days to make jewellery with, the choice can often seem overwhelming. This in itself can be a problem and many jewellery makers can over design their bead jewellery.
The answer to this problem is to take a step back and defer to the classic wisdom of designers like Co Co Channel. Fashion fades, only style remains.
The classic mistake a lot of jewellery designers make is to over clutter their jewellery with what some people have termed special beads However what makes these beads special is their unique or uncommon properties. If you over use these beads in a jewellery design, what make them unique (often their scarcity) becomes lost. Often what you end up with is a very expensively made piece of costume bead jewellery that no longer has any unique or special value.
The key to design success is to not over use elaborate glass beads. Scale back on Venetian style or wedding cake beads, as they are sometimes known. Get the best value from mixed bead packs by making the most of the plainer style beads. Use these beads to show off the more unique designs of silver foil beads, cane beads or intricate lac beads.
If a beaded charm bracelet is made with lots of elaborate glass or lac beads for example, it is difficult to appreciate their individual unique beauty. Even if it is your intention to make a very ornate design it is important to include some beads that you may not ordinarily consider to demonstrate each beads individual feature.
